EA Sports Reveal Eagerly Anticipated FC 25 Player Ratings

September marked an important date in the world of gaming and esports. In fact, it’s an event that has become known among an even greater audience. It’s discussed in workplaces and schoolyards, and it has gaming sites laying up odds and lines across the world. So, what exactly are we talking about? Well, it’s that time of year when EA Sports release their player rankings for their upcoming new edition of EA Sports FC, in this case EA Sports FC 25.

A massively popular game internationally, the eagerly awaited player rankings cause huge debate and speculation online, with leaks of the final overall ratings (OVR) even hitting the press in the build-up to the official release. But now the numbers are in, and it’s time to look through EA’s rankings ahead of the official launch of the game.

The Top Three – 91 OVR

Two of the top three players are the same as the last edition of the game. France’s Kylian Mbappé may have swapped Paris for Madrid, but the forward remains top of the pile, despite a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign for his country. Mbappé is joined at the top of the pile by another attacking player.

Erling Haaland and Norway may not have been at Euro 2024, but the striker continues his red-hot form in front of goal, again securing the Premier League Golden Boot futures. And it is a club teammate of Haaland who joins the two stars at the top of the EA Sports FC 25 rankings pile on a 91 overall rating: Rodri. The Spanish midfielder has become arguably the most influential player at the Etihad, and his cultured performances in the center of the park were certainly instrumental in guiding his country to Euro 2024 success. It’s those three that sit at the top of the pile

Positions 4 to 7 – 90 OVR

The next four positions in the EA Sports FC 25 rankings list all feature with 90 OVR. And as you can imagine, they are a stellar list of football talent. England and Real Madrid maestro Jude Bellingham is there after his heroics in helping guide his club to La Liga and Champions League glory, while club teammate Vini Jr joins him.

Both players are battling for the Ballon d’Or award for 2025, as potentially are the two players who round out the top seven by joining the Real Madrid duo on 90 OVR: Kevin De Bruyne and Harry Kane. De Bruyne completes a hattrick of Manchester City players in the top seven, while England captain Kane has cleaned up goalscoring awards from the 2023/24 season, despite failing to gain any club or international team success.

Positions 8 to 15 – 89 OVR

No fewer than eight players share an EA Sports FC 25 ranking of 89 OVR and help fill the top 15 positions of this edition’s rankings. Among those eight players are four players based in England, two in Spain, plus one apiece from France and Italy. Incredibly, no fewer than four are goalkeepers, with Liverpool’s Allison Becker, Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois and Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen all placing on 89 points.

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are the second and third Liverpool players to feature in the top 15, while Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard is the second Norwegian. These players are joined by Lautaro Martinez, who is the highest placing Argentine on the list. So, you know what that means!

Messi Slips, but Stays in Top 25

Unsurprisingly, Lionel Messi is starting to slip down this list as the magician reaches the twilight of his illustrious career. Now 37 and playing in Miami, he still plays a key role for his country, helping La Albiceleste secure another Copa America in 2024. However, an 88 OVR—two points lower than his 2024 rating—marks a notable drop for a player who has dominated these charts for what feels like an eternity.

Messi joins nine other players in rounding out the top 25 of the EA Sports FC 25 rankings list and is the only player outside of Europe to feature in this list (of course meaning no place for great rival Cristiano Ronaldo).

In terms of the other players featuring 88 OVR, there are four more Manchester City players featuring, bringing the total City contingent in the top 25 to an incredible seven, more than any other club. Those players are Phil Foden, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and goalkeeper Ederson. Real Madrid also adds to their contingent, with Federico Valverde and Antonio Rudiger placing, bringing the total Los Blancos contingent to six. That means more than half of this list play for either the champions of England or Spain.

Atlético Madrid have two 88-rated players, with both Antoine Griezmann and Jan Oblak placing. Oblak completes a list of six goalkeepers. The final player to feature is Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, who despite his ripe old age of 36 is still scaring defenders to death.
