I don't really know how the trading work, can I get Cash or only swap players?

You need SSC plus coins to trade.For an average Gold player you need like 6 SSC plus random coins (2000,3000 etc) that depends on the player OVR.

Do I need SSC only when I purchase players or even when I sell them?

No,you need SSC only for Trades and Buying!But i dont recommend buying with SSC,use only coins to buy gold packs,trading can get you much better players!
